Florida Land Title Association installs new 2007 President

HOUSTON -- Barry Scholnik, vice president, underwritng counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Co., has been installed as 2007 president of the Florida Land Title Association (FLTA).

"The title industry is facing very tough times and FLTA is fortunate to have such a highly qualified person as Barry to help lead the industry in 2007," said Harold Hickman, executive vice president, regional manager, Stewart Title Guaranty Co. "He is a very valuable asset to Stewart Title, and I know he will be for FLTA."

FLTA is a trade association composed of title insurance underwriters, title insurance agencies and abstractors in addition to attorney agents who are associate members. The group's membership of 200 entities with more than 4,500 employees include all title insurers who do business in the state of Florida.

Scholnik most recently served as chairman of the FLTA insurer's section, and previously served as past chairman of the FLTA claims prevention and avoidance committee. He has been active with the group for 14 years, and also had served as a zone president for two terms and as a member of the group's governmental and judicial affairs committee.

A 24-year title industry veteran, Scholnik received his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law. He is a member of the Florida Bar and the Bar's real property, probate and trust law Section.

Scholnik joined Stewart Title Guaranty Co. in 1995 and works out of its Boca Raton office.
