Southern Land Title Receives ALTA Best Practices Certification

April 5, 2016

Southern Land Title, Inc., a regional title and settlement services provider based in Bay Minette, Ala., recently achieved compliance with ALTA’s Title Insurance and Settlement Company Best Practices.

Southern Land Title is now part of the elite, but continually growing, group of ALTA Best Practices certified companies. With this certification, Southern Land Title has proven its continued commitment, not only to regulators and lenders, but to all consumers, ensuring a positive and compliant real estate settlement experience, according to J. Alan Lusk, president of Southern Land Title.

“Receiving certification ensures that we are able to meet or exceed bank and lending institutions’ requirements, as well as provide assurance to our customers that we have the knowledge necessary to deliver superior service,” Lusk said.

National certified public accounting and management consulting firm PYA (Pershing Yoakley & Associates PC), an ALTA Elite Provider of Best Practices services, provided the third-party assessment and certification services for Southern Land Title.

“PYA’s knowledge, and willingness to share that knowledge, throughout the certification process eliminated unpleasant surprises and ensured that we achieved certification in the smoothest way possible,” said Margaret Quinley, accountant of Southern Land Title. “The staff is friendly and easy to work with, and I would recommend them to anyone seeking certification.”

In order to ensure the protection of consumers’ non-public personal information, regulators have increased the demand for protective measures throughout title and settlement procedures. Due to this oversight, lenders are reviewing their relationships with service providers and becoming more sensitive to the types of companies with which they do business. To help meet this need, ALTA created the Best Practices Framework to help title and settlement agents prepare policies and procedures to protect lenders and consumers. Southern Land Title chose to pursue and receive certification for this reason.
