Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac give struggling homeowners a holiday break
From Dec. 20 to Jan. 3, all evictions involving foreclosed single-family and 2-4 unit multifamily homes will be suspended, according to an official announcement from Freddie Mac.
“If the property is occupied, our foreclosure attorneys will suspend the eviction to provide a greater measure of certainty to families during the holidays,” said Anthony Renzi, Executive Vice President of Single Family Portfolio Management at Freddie Mac.
Fannie Mae has not made an official announcement, but spokesperson Janis Smith said that it too plans on suspending evictions during that time frame.
“Families will not be evicted from their homes during the holidays,” she said.
Smith said Fannie Mae has delayed evictions during the holidays for the last several years.
