North Carolina Home Sales Up 13%

Second Home, Resort Sales Posted Largest Gains

Sales of existing homes in North Carolina were up 13 percent in May compared with the same time period a year earlier, according to the North Carolina Association of Realtors.

In May on an adjusted basis, 7,424 residential units were sold compared with 6,599 units sold during the same month last year and total sales dollars increased 15 percent over the same time period a year ago, according to the association.

The average sales price of an existing home in North Carolina in May was $180,771.

Second home or resort sales were especially strong, according to the association. The the largest increases in units sold occurred in beach and mountains communities with Brunswick at 84 percent, Carteret at 52 percent and Haywood at 40 percent. The Triad area also posted a strong increase with 30 percent more units sold in May compared with the same time period a year ago.
