First American Title President Gary L. Kermott Re-Elected to ALTA® Board of Governors

SANTA ANA, Calif., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary L. Kermott, president of Santa Ana-based First American Title Insurance Company, has been re-elected to the Board of Governors for the American Land Title Association (ALTA). He will serve as one of two Board Representatives of the Title Insurance Underwriters Section until October 2003. ALTA, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the association representing title insurance companies and their agents nationwide.
Kermott, who has served as president of First American Title Insurance Company since January 1999, began his tenure with the company in 1983 when he was hired as a law clerk. Upon receiving his law degree in 1985, he was promoted to assistant counsel with First American's national legal staff and went on to hold several legal and management positions within the company. In 1990, Kermott was named president of the company's Arizona division, and also served as regional vice president for Arizona and Utah. He was promoted to executive vice president of the title insurance company in 1996, and named chief operating officer in December 1997. Shortly after being named president in 1999, the company announced Kermott's appointment to serve as executive vice president of First American Title's parent company, The First American Corporation.
Serving on the 11-member Board of Governors, Kermott and his peers will be responsible for creating association policy; overseeing the financial health of the association; overseeing the work of 33 committees; and ensuring the overall welfare of the association.
The American Land Title Association represents title insurance companies and their agencies nationwide on a variety of industry and legislative issues. Members of the Association search and insure land titles to protect real estate investors including home buyers and mortgage lenders.
