Optical Character Recognition software eliminates re-keying of data from title report process

Garden City, N.Y., – Realty Data Corp. (RDC), a provider of electronic abstracting services to the title and settlement service industries, has incorporated optical character recognition (OCR) technology into its title search application. The new feature further reduces time spent on re-keying data from document images retrieved during title searches, which must then be included with the title report.

In the past, title searchers were forced to re-type the information from those documents into a title report. In contrast, the new OCR feature automatically converts to text the image of the document retrieved during an electronic title search. The searching professional can then cut and paste – rather than type – the relevant text into the title report, saving valuable time and cost. This can be immensely valuable when converting lengthy legal descriptions.

“The no-hands conversion of image to text is another step forward for users of the RDC software,” said Bill Welge, president of Realty Data Corp. “OCR trims valuable time during the process of conducting a title search. Using a cut and paste mechanism also reduces transposition errors common to the re-keying process.”

The OCR technology is available in more than 50 counties, through Realty Data’s grantor/grantee search application.
