PRIA Opens Registration for Winter Symposium

January 13, 2015

The Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) will host its 2015 Winter Symposium at the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington, Va., from Feb. 17-20. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Tune in to PRIA” and will feature programs and bring together speakers representing both PRIA and its stakeholders for facilitated discussion.

The symposium will open Feb. 18, with a keynote address by Douglas Duncan, senior vice president and chief economist for Fannie Mae. Duncan is responsible for providing all forecasts and analyses on the economy, housing and mortgage markets for Fannie Mae. He also oversees corporate strategy and is responsible for strategic research regarding external factors and their potential impact on the company and the housing industry.

The Feb. 19 lunch will feature Stephen Bisbee, president and CEO of eOriginal and a member of the Board of Directors of the Electronic Signature and Records Association (ESRA). Bisbee is the co-inventor of the eOriginal process, envisioning a solution for tying electronic and legal processes to security technologies to reduce the inefficiencies of paper-based transactions.

The overall conference program includes a variety of general sessions, and work group meetings during which current PRIA work products will be addressed. This is an opportunity for attendees to participate in working sessions to learn more about targeted initiatives and contribute to the conversation.

One session topic sure to generate discussion is “Flat Rate Recording Fees,” a topic of interest for both recorders and submitters. A small number of states recently adopted flat fees for recording and submitters are looking for more states to adopt uniform rates as a preemptive step to simplify compliance on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Loan Estimate and Closing Disclosure Forms that take effect Aug. 1, 2015.

GIS and land records will take center stage for a discussion about the importance of GIS as it relates to the land records, recorders and assessors. This program will start with the basics of GIS followed by a more in-depth GIS session later in the program.

Registration materials, hotel reservation access and a preliminary schedule can be found on the
