How Super Bowl XLIX coaches’ homes stack up

Share

Following Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll will likely return to their respective coasts to spend some well-earned time at home.

For the Seahawks coach, home can be anywhere from the Pacific Northwest to L.A.’s South Bay to even Hawaii, thanks to a diverse real estate portfolio. The Patriots coach, on the other hand, maintains his own collection of properties spread about the eastern seaboard. Here’s how the two stack up:

Carroll owns a three-bedroom residence in Hunts Point, Wash., that he purchased last year for $5.9 million. The 3,860-square-foot home, built in 1999, features a detached guesthouse, a deep moorage dock, 75 feet of waterfront and its own sandy beach on little more than half an acre.

Belichick’s main base of operations is a Nantucket-style home on Boston’s South Shore. The 5,500-square-foot home, with a home theater and a temperature-controlled wine cellar, was purchased through a limited liability company in 2010 for $1.725 million.

The two head coaches offer contrasting styles when it comes to vacation property. Carroll owns a 1,200-square-foot bungalow on the North Shore of Oahu that he purchased in 2002 for $1.25 million. Belichick stakes claim to a two-story penthouse unit in Jupiter, Fla., that he bought in 2009 for $2.65 million.

Carroll, now five years removed from his last game at USC, still maintains a strong real estate presence in the Southland. Among his holdings is a 3,901-square-foot home in Rolling Hills and an ocean-facing house in Hermosa Beach.

Belichick’s largest property is a multi-building compound on Nantucket Island. Found about four blocks from Siasconset Beach, the three-parcel spread includes a 3,012-square-foot home with a pool as well as two additional residences.

Much like Super Bowl XLIX, this real estate matchup may be too close to call. We’ll let you decide which coach comes out on top.
