Rep. Oxley Announces Subcommittee Chairmen, Jurisdictions

WASHINGTON---Continuing the organization of the new Financial Services Committee, Chairman Michael G. Oxley (R-OH) today announced subcommittee chairmen and their jurisdictions .

"I?m fielding a first-rate lineup," Oxley said. "As I quarterback this team, I know I can depend on each one of these chairmen to catch the pass."

Minutes after he was appointed Chairman on January 4, Oxley named Rep. Roukema as vice chairman of the full committee.

"This Committee gives us unprecedented opportunity in a new and exciting area of policy," Oxley said. "Along with a Republican Administration and Senate, the subcommittee chairmen and I will move forward to serve America?s taxpayers, savers, borrowers, and investors."

Proposed subcommittee chairmen and their jurisdictions are:

Congressman Richard Baker (LA), Chairman
Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government-Sponsored Enterprises
Jurisdiction: capital markets, securities, insurance generally, and government-sponsored enterprises.

Congressman Peter King (NY), Chairman
Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy, Technology, and Economic Growth
Jurisdiction: federal monetary policy, currency, precious metals, valuation of the dollar, economic stabilization, defense production, commodity prices, and financial aid to commerce and industry.

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL), Chairman
Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit
Jurisdiction: banks and banking, depository institutions, federal deposit insurance, and safety and soundness.

Congresswoman Marge Roukema (NJ), Chair
Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity
Jurisdiction: public and private housing, urban development, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Congressman Doug Bereuter (NE), Chairman
Subcommittee on International Monetary Policy and Trade
Jurisdiction: international finance and banking, international financial and monetary organizations, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, and promotion of international trade in financial services.

Congresswoman Sue Kelly (NY), Chair
Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
Jurisdiction: oversight of all matters within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Financial Services.
