Rising Flood Waters Threaten Many Homes and Businesses
|April 1, 2008|
ST. LOUIS, MO - The rain fell and the rivers and creeks continued to rise, flooding many homes and businesses throughout St Louis and surrounding areas. The community reached out to help all those in need and in the path of the destructive water, after all this area has been through this a couple of times in the past 50 years.
The Meramec River crested on Saturday evening, March 22, 2008 at 37.8 feet with flood state being at 16.0 feet. It is one of the highest crests the area has seen since 1982, according to the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Interstate Title Search joined the army of volunteers to help those whose homes and businesses were in the path of the flood waters. Interstate Title Search went and helped move equipment from a local food pantry, Circle of Concern, so they would not have anything destroyed from the rising waters that were quickly heading their way.
“It was a chance for Interstate Title Search to give back to the community.” says Interstate Title Search president, Jay Duncan.
Interstate Title Search and its employees were not finished after helping the food pantry. They quickly made their way to Fenton, MO where there were calls for volunteers to help sand bag homes that were being threatened by the rising Meramec River waters. Along with about 30 other people, Interstate Title Search quickly sand bagged a wall around a home of two disabled ladies that were trying to get prepared for the destruction ahead.
Phyllis Backus of Interstate Title Search spoke of her experience, “It was time for people to start coming together and working as one. Unity was key to helping everyone who needed it.”
“It was great to help others in need when they couldn’t help themselves.” says Roger Hanson of Intestate Title Search.
The flood waters receded and the home of the two ladies was spared in large part to the efforts of so many volunteers who pulled together and worked to save a community and a city that they all love.
