ALTA Board Approves Three New Committees

October 26, 2017

During its meeting at ALTA ONE in Miami, ALTA’s Board of Governors approved the creation of three new standing committees focused on talent, congressional liaisons and the ALTA Registry.

In 2017, ALTA’s Board of Governors identified talent focus as a strategic priority for the association. This will also be a priority in 2018. The purpose and scope of work of the Talent Committee is to:

  • Promote the exchange of information within the ALTA membership about current trends in human resources management.
  • Think strategically about the human resources issues affecting the industry, including: employee recruitment, employee retention and employee development.
  • Develop resources to promote the industry to prospective employees to attract talent and build future leaders.
  • Develop resources to increase skills of the current workforce and enhance knowledge about the business of title and settlement.
  • Maintain liaison with intra-industry groups focused on talent development (e.g., The Network).

Also during 2017, additional focus and resources have been dedicated to the expansion of ALTA’s Congressional Liaison program. To help identify congressional liaisons, equip them with advocacy tools and track their activity, this committee will:

  • Acknowledge and promote the political influence those working in the title industry have as voters, volunteers, job creators and leaders in their communities.
  • Encourage title professionals to play a direct role in educating members of Congress about issues important to the industry.
  • Identify a national network of title professionals willing to leverage personal relationships with federal elected officials and their staff for the benefit of the title industry.
  • Conduct training and provide materials on how to effectively communicate ALTA’s legislative priorities with lawmakers.
  • Create opportunities for individuals to interact in-person with members of Congress.

The ALTA Title & Settlement Agent Registry (ALTA Registry)officially launched Oct. 1 to serve a s an efficient, accurate and needed industry phone book allowing lenders to know they are working with the correct company. The ALTA Board approved the formation of the ALTA Registry Committee to:

  • Monitor and report on the status of the ALTA Registry to the ALTA Board and membership.
  • Provide guidance and oversight for the Design Subgroup and the ALTA Registry Roundtable.
  • Seek opportunities to:
    •  Improve the Registry organization, structure, products and services.
    • Provide communication, training, and outreach to the land title industry.
    • Engage with customers.
  • Make recommendations, as may be appropriate, to the ALTA Board of Governors.
