ALTA Statement on President Obama’s FHA Announcement

Washington, DC, January 9, 2015 — The American Land Title Association (ALTA), the national trade association of the land title insurance industry, released the following statement today from president Diane Evans NTP in response to President Obama’s announcement of the reduction of annual mortgage insurance premiums through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA):

“The lack of consumer confidence in homeownership continues to cause low demand in the housing market,” said ALTA President Diane Evans NTP. “President Obama’s efforts will help allow more creditworthy Americans to achieve homeownership or to refinance their current home and help bring demand back into the market place. Ensuring proper access to credit is paramount to rebuilding our housing economy. ALTA and our members look forward to working with the Administration and Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Castro on housing solutions for consumers.”

ALTA, along with several other housing industry trade groups, recently signed a letter to Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Castro urging for a reduction of single-family mortgage insurance premiums to expand access to safer and more affordable mortgages to more creditworthy households.
