ALTA Board Governor Mary Thomas has been an advocate for the title insurance industry since 2006. Thomas has spent almost 19 years with Stewart Title Guaranty Co. and Stewart Title Family of Cos., currently serving as senior vice president and chief compliance and regulatory officer. Mary is a graduate of Washington and Lee University where she majored in Politics. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in Houston. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Texas as well as before the Supreme Court of the United States of America. In 2016, she attained her Certification in Compliance and Ethics from the Compliance Certification Board. Thomas was elected to the position of Underwriters Section Representative on the ALTA Board of Governors in 2024 and is chair of the NAIC Liaison Work Group. She also serves on the ALTA Government Affairs Committee, State Legislative/Regulatory Action Committee and Public Affairs Steering Committee. Additionally, she works closely with several state land title associations in a variety of capacities. A native Texan, Mary enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband, David, have two children, Abby and Cody.
