South Carolina Realtors? Group Reports Record Existing Home Sales In 2001

Sales of existing single-family homes finished at an all-time high in South Carolina last year, up 5.7 percent compared with 2000, according to the 10,000-member South Carolina Association of Realtors.

Multiple Listing Service statistics report 38,519 homes and condominiums were sold last year, almost 2,100 more than were sold in 2000.

The average price of homes sold edged up 1.18 percent from $164,000 in 2000 to $166,000 last year.

Greenville and Myrtle Beach reported the highest sales increases, at 15 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

Home sales rose in Aiken, Charleston, Columbia, Greenwood, Orangeburg, Spartanburg and the Anderson/Tri-County area. But sales declined slightly in Beaufort, Rock

Hill/Lancaster, Cherokee County and Florence/Pee Dee, according to MLS figures.
