Chicago-Area Homes Enjoy Fast-Paced January

The Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois reported sales of single-family attached and detached homes in the northern Illinois and Chicagoland area grew approximately 20 percent in January 2002 over January 2001 levels.

A total of 7,056 homes, worth $1.53 billion, changed hands in January, up from 5,841 homes worth $1.27 billion during the same month in 2001. The average sales price per home rose to $218,225, up from $217,874 last year.

Single-family property types include detached single-family houses, condominiums, townhouses and two-to-four-unit residential buildings.

The Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois covers the greater Chicago metropolitan region, including Cook, DuPage, Lake, McHenry, Kane, Will, Grundy and Kendall counties.
