Cook County, Ill., Recorder of Deeds Website Goes Down After Being Hacked
April 14, 2011
The Cook County Recorder of Deeds in Illinois, which includes Chicago, could not be accessed for several hours Tuesday after being hacked.
Title agents and attorneys trying to log onto the site to access land records, federal and state tax liens, and other documents were directed to other websites, including porn sites, and to a generic collection of advertisements.
The site was restored around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Recorder of Deeds called the mishap a “technical malfunction." According to the Chicago Tribune, a county worker said no personal information was compromised by the hacking.
