ALTA Encourages Senate to Pass Bill to Extend Terrorism Risk Insurance Program

December 16, 2014

With the clock ticking on the sunset of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA), ALTA joined 56 other groups and associations urging the Senate to pass S.2244, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2014.

In the letter, ALTA encouraged the Senate to pass the bill without any amendments to the House version before Congress adjourns. TRIA expires Dec. 31.

Since its initial enactment in 2002, TRIA has served as a vital public-private risk sharing mechanism, ensuring that private terrorism risk insurance coverage remains commercially available at virtually no cost to the taxpayer. TRIA fosters certainty in the marketplace and allows all of these interconnected elements of the economy to continue to move forward.
