NATIC Hires Legal Claims Education Officer

February 23, 2016

Patricia Pinto has joined North American Title Insurance Co. (NATIC) as its new legal claims education officer. She will train and provide education seminars on a variety of topics for NATIC agents, both affiliate and independent.

“Pat’s 20-plus years of experience as claims counsel for a national underwriter makes her uniquely qualified to provide claims awareness and prevention training to our title agents,” said Margery Lee, executive vice president, NATIC national claims and litigation manager. “In handling title and escrow claims for the title insurer, insured and underwritten agents, Pat has acquired in-depth knowledge of issues often encountered in our industry. She has generously shared her knowledge and experience as a frequent speaker before real estate, title and business associations.

“As our claims education officer, Pat will train our title agents on how to spot and resolve potential issues in a transaction before settlement, based on actual and hypothetical claims scenarios from closed and cancelled transactions,” added Lee. “She will be sharing these claims awareness and prevention materials through webinars as well as on-site seminars and roundtable discussions, focusing initially on California.”

Pinto is a member of the Orange County Real Estate Fraud Task Force and has collaborated with the Department of Justice, California Department of Insurance, FBI and the Orange County District Attorney to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators of mortgage and real estate fraud. She also assisted the Orange County Superior Court in creating a loan modification mediation program, for which she received the 2013 Panther Award from the California Reinvestment Coalition. A certified mediator, Pinto has mediated real estate cases for the Orange County Superior Court and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

“A little training can go a long way in preventing claims and resulting losses,” Pinto said. “I look forward to meeting our agents and letting them know they are our teammates in addressing these title issues and their prevention or resolution.”
