Proposed Bill in Texas Would Change Rate-setting Structure

December 22, 2016

Filed by Sen. Bob Hall, S.B. 372 would require underwriters to file rates with the Texas Department (TDI) of Insurance under a file-and-use system. The commissioner would then review and approve. Under current Texas law, the commissioner sets title insurance rates so that companies charge the same premium amount.
