Proptech Is Transforming Homebuying, but GAO Warns of Significant Risks

A new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) examines how property-technology tools are reshaping the homebuying experience and what that means for consumers, regulators and the broader housing market. Known as “proptech,” these tools influence nearly every stage of the homebuying process, from searching for homes to securing a mortgage and closing the deal. The GAO finds that while proptech has introduced efficiency and accessibility into a traditionally complex process, it has also created new vulnerabilities that warrant closer oversight.
