CATIC Adds Industry Veteran to Board

June 18, 2026

CATIC appointed Melissa Jay Murphy to its Board of Directors.

Murphy brings more than three decades of leadership and experience in Florida real estate law, title insurance and regulatory affairs. She currently serves as a consultant to the Florida Land Title Association (FLTA) on legislative and regulatory matters and is widely recognized as one of Florida's leading authorities on title insurance and real property law.

Prior to her retirement in 2025, Murphy served as general counsel for a leading bar-related title insurance provider. Earlier in her career, she spent many years in private practice focusing on title examination, underwriting, and real estate transactions.

“Melissa's reputation, leadership, and deep knowledge of the title industry make her an exceptional addition to our Board,” said James M. Czapiga, president and chief executive officer of CATIC. “As CATIC continues to expand its presence in Florida and other growth markets, her insight and experience will be invaluable in helping guide our strategic direction.”

Murphy has been an active leader within the title and legal professions throughout her career. She served as President of the FLTA from 2024 to 2025 and previously chaired its Government Affairs Committee and Insurer Section. She has also held numerous leadership positions within the Florida Bar's Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, including chair of the Title Insurance Committee and chair of the Section.

In recognition of her contributions to the profession, Murphy received the William S. Belcher Lifetime Professionalism Award in 2020.  In May 2026, she received the John Voso Jr. Advocate of the Year Award from the American Land Title Association.
