FBI Warns of Rising Vacant Land Seller Impersonation Scams

June 18, 2026

In a Public Service Announcement issued June 16, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) said fraudsters are using stolen personal information, fake identification documents, email accounts and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone numbers to pose as legitimate property owners. The warning is similar to information and resources ALTA has shared over the past year alerting real estate professionals and consumers about the growing threat.
