ALTA Updates Three TIRS State Compliance Guides

ALTA’s TIRS State Compliance Guides contain state-by-state regulatory and local practice material for entities establishing real estate title and closing operations. This resource is available for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Updates were recently made to the guides for Indiana, North Carolina and Tennessee.

  • Indiana: This revision reflects 2024–2026 statutory and regulatory developments affecting title insurers, title producers, escrow/closing practices, electronic filing, unclaimed property, RREAL IN reporting and real estate practice issues, including Indiana’s new foreign ownership restrictions. Editor of the Indiana TIRS is Joshua Showalter, state underwriting counsel for First American Title Insurance Co.
  • North Carolina: The updates reflect legislative and regulatory changes through the 2026 North Carolina legislative session, including revisions to remote notarization procedures, licensing/testing requirements and related statutory citations. Editor of the North Carolina TIRS is Laura Martin, owner and counsel of Magnolia Title Co.
  • Tennessee: This guide has been updated to reflect legislative and regulatory changes through the 2026 legislative session, including changes related to licensing, compliance, recording requirements, consumer protections and foreclosure processes, along with routine to forms, references and online resources.
