Washington Mutual Home Loans and Insurance Services Group announced it has added home warranty plans to its online product offerings.

The home warranty plan is issued and administered by American Home Shield and includes coverage for home systems and appliances, including electrical, plumbing and heating systems.

"Offering home warranty plans is a natural fit," said Carl Formato, president of Washington Mutual Insurance Services.

The home warranty plans are available regardless of whether the homeowner has a mortgage from WaMu.

The insurance services group also announced a partnership with Veterinary Pet Insurance to provide pet insurance. Coverage can include an annual pet physical exam, vaccinations, heartworm protection, prescription flea control, choice of spaying/neutering or routine teeth cleaning and other services. Dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles and other exotic pets can be covered.

"Many pets will need emergency medical treatment, and veterinary care can be expensive," said Formato.
