Special Announcement from President Gregory Kosin

August 30, 2007

Dear ALTA Members:

I want to personally announce that Jim Maher is retiring as ALTA's Executive Vice President effective October 15th. Words cannot begin to capture the contribution Jim has made to the title industry over the last 23 years, but I would like to share some of his contributions.

Jim joined ALTA in 1984 as general counsel and assumed the position of Executive Vice President in October 1988.

Under Jim's leadership, ALTA grew to its present status as the preeminent trade association for the title industry. ALTA's diverse membership, now 3,200 strong, represents small- and medium-sized businesses as well as Fortune 500 companies.

During Jim's tenure, ALTA worked diligently to protect the interests of the industry. For the last 20 years, Jim as been an effective industry spokesperson before legislators, regulators and the news media, advocating ALTA’s position on a wide variety of issues.

Jim's extensive background has made him the "go-to" guy for information-there isn't a question about title insurance or ALTA's history that Jim can't answer. We are very grateful that he has agreed to serve as a consultant to ALTA so that we can continue to tap his vast knowledge and expertise.

Jim is a terrific human being, a wonderful colleague and a dear friend. He has touched all of our lives in many significant ways. I hope you will all join me at the ALTA's 100th Annual Convention in Chicago this October, where we will pay tribute to Jim and Kathy Maher for their many contributions to ALTA and the title insurance industry.

We wish Jim all the best as he begins this new chapter in his life.
