Live from ALTA®'s Annual Convention

October 12, 2007

Friday morning during ALTA's Annual Convention in Chicago, ALTA President Greg Kosin participated in a panel to outline a comprehensive plan for implementing the recommendations made by the GAO in its April 2007 report "Actions Needed to Improve Oversight of the Title Industry and Better Protect Consumers."

The session, titled "Raising the Industry Standard for Integrity and Consumer Orientation," described ALTA's new Title Industry Consumer Initiative.

The centerpiece of the Consumer Initiative is the Principles of Fair Conduct, developed by a cross section of ALTA members. During the session, members of the ALTA Board of Governors discussed how each of their companies plan to adopt the Principles. They emphasized the importance of every ALTA member company embracing and adopting the Principles and promoting them to their consumers, customers and state regulators.

"I personally encourage you to adopt this program in your company," said Kosin, "so we can have a united front before legislators, regulators and consumers to show we are serious about addressing the concerns in the GAO report."

Attendees also heard a hilarious presentation from former Laugh-In star, Arte Johnson, visited with vendors in the Exhibit Showcase and attended educational sessions. Look for more on the convention in the next issue of News You Can Use.
