New Threats Impact Timely, Cost-Effective Access to Public Land Records

October 26, 2010

The American Land Title Association continues to monitor legislation and regulation impacting access to public records.

ALTA’s position on the cost to obtain a reproduction of a public record or document in any format should be the public record custodian’s actual out-of-pocket cost to produce the reproduction.

Jay Sibley, chairman of ALTA’s Real Property Records Committee, has provided an update to recent challenges impacting the timely and cost-effective access to public land records.

The update includes a discussion of legislation in Arkansas, California, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

This update was written by members of the “Bulk Access: What’s Happening on the Legislative and Other Fronts” panel, a professional development session at the 2010 ALTA Annual Convention, sponsored by ALTA’s Real Property Records Committee.
