The American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law recently reappointed James L. Gosdin and promoted Bruce Hawley of Stewart Title Guaranty Co. (STG) to leadership positions for the 2012-2013 bar year.

James L. Gosdin, senior vice president, chief underwriting counsel and chief reinsurance counsel for STG, was reappointed as chair of the Title Insurance and Surveys Committee of the Commercial Real Estate Transactions Group, a position he has held since 2010.

Bruce Hawley, senior vice president, senior underwriting counsel and multinational title services group manager for STG, was promoted to group vice chair of the Residential, Multi-Family and Special Use Group, which includes committees for Single Family Residential, Multi-Family Residential, Senior Housing and Assisted Living, and Affordable Housing. Since 2010, Hawley had served as chair of the Multi-Family Residential committee.

“We are proud that the ABA has again selected Jim and Bruce as leaders in the Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law,” said John Killea, chief legal counsel. “The reappointment and Hawley’s promotion to group vice chair reflect the hard work and leadership we have seen from them at Stewart. We congratulate them on the honor of this recognition from the ABA and look forward to their continued commitment to education and industry leadership.”

Gosdin handles underwriting decisions for title insurance transactions throughout the United States, reinsurance transactions and international title insurance transactions for STG. In addition to writing the American Bar Association publication Title Insurance: A Comprehensive Overview, Third Edition for title insurance education, Gosdin works closely with HUD and the Mortgage Bankers Association as an integral part of the American Land Title Association (ALTA) RESPA Task Force.

An accomplished veteran of more than 30 years in the real estate industry, Hawley joined Stewart in 2000. In addition to managing STG’s multinational title services group and providing national underwriting services, Hawley is responsible for developing business with multinational law firms and companies throughout the United States and several foreign countries.
