Michigan-based Liberty Title Named Top Workplace by Detroit Free Press

November 14, 2017

Liberty Title Agency was named by The Detroit Free Press as one of Michigan’s Top Workplaces for the sixth consecutive year. The list of Top Workplaces is selected based on employee nominations and anonymous survey results. Honoring companies that best keep their employees motivated and satisfied, the Top Workplaces survey had nearly 250 companies, across various industries, participate this year.

“Liberty Title is family-owned and operated, and we keep this fact in mind when crafting our hiring and retention practices,” said Michele Richardson, president of Liberty Title. “Though we have greatly expanded in size over the past 40+ years, our first and foremost priority remains keeping our employees engaged. This is why we developed our ‘Smarter Bear Ethos,’ which dictates our culture. In-house, we refer to all employees as Smarter Bears, which to us means a colleague that is caring, empathetic, accountable, and, of course, ‘smarter than the average bear.’”

Liberty Title offers a full suite of benefits to support the health, wellness, and work-life balance of its staff (e.g., health, dental, and vision insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, FSA), and a 401(k) retirement plan that includes a discretionary company match.

Liberty Title’s approach to time off and flexible working hours is a point of pride. “We are unique in our industry in that we rarely ask our staff to work overtime. We want our staff to have lives outside the office. Our vacation, sick day, and holiday policies are very flexible,” said Teresa Stuenkel, executive vice president at Liberty Title. “We even offer a one-month sabbatical to all employees after seven years of continuous employment. They can use this time however they like whether it is to travel, spend additional time with their families, or just relax.”
