Panel to Debate Anti-Money Laundering Policies at ALTA Advocacy Summit

With Congress significantly interested in updating federal anti-money laundering laws, now is the perfect time to take a deeper look at money laundering and its relationship to real estate as well as FinCEN's Geographic Targeting Orders and beneficial ownership.

To keep you in the know, ALTA Advocacy Summit will present a panel to discuss these issues in-depth, including the views of policymakers and industry and non-governmental organizations.

Moderated by ALTA Immediate Past President Steven G. Day NTP, the panel will include Gary Kalman, executive director of the FACT Coalition, and Christie DeSanctis, director of federal banking, lending and housing finance policy at the National Association of REALTORS (NAR).

A founding member of the FACT Coalition, Kalman works with the more than 100 state, national and international member organizations to promote policies to combat the harmful impacts of corrupt financial practices. He has testified in Congress on numerous occasions on financial accountability. A regular speaker and commentator on anti-corruption and transparency issues, his comments and work have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal as well as on NPR, Fox News and MSNBC, among other outlets.

DeSanctis handles business regulatory policy issues for NAR's government affairs team, including the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, the Know Before You Owe mortgage initiative and independent contractor misclassification matters. Prior to joining NAR in 2016, DeSanctis worked for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor and the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship regarding employer benefits and workforce protections matters. DeSanctis is admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
