Chicago Title’s Caplinger Receives Scholar Award

Paula Caplinger, vice president and agency counsel and manager for Chicago Title Insurance Co. in Tidewater, Va., recently received the 2015 Traver Scholar Award. The Traver Scholar Award was created by Virginia Continuing Legal Education and the Real Estate Section Council of the Virginia Bar Association to honor men and women who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of Virginia continuing legal education.  For more than 25 years, Caplinger has been a frequent statewide lecturer on real estate and title insurance related topics. 

In her role as agency counsel and manager in Newport News, Va., she regularly organizes and participates in Fidelity National Title Group continuing education programs for local title agents and attorneys.  She has been a guest lecturer at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law and Regent University. 

Caplinger began practicing law in 1986. In 1988, she became in-house counsel for Hampton Roads Title Corporation.  She served as manager and counsel for the Tidewater, Va., office of two national underwriters before joining Chicago Title.  Since 1998, Caplinger has been Tidewater agency counsel and manager for Chicago Title Insurance Co.  She served as chair of the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar (2003-04) and presently serves as a council member on the Virginia Bar Association Real Estate Section Council.  She is a member of the Newport News Bar Association, the Greater Peninsula Women’s Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Virginia Land Title Association. 

The award is named for Courtland L. Traver, whose outstanding legal ability and willingness to share his knowledge and experience was an inspiration to others.
