This past year proved to only be an appetizer to changes on the horizon in the marketplace. GSE reform, creation of a new settlement statement, regulators’ proposed 20 percent down payment requirement for Qualified Residential Mortgages and NAIC reporting requirements are all issues we will contend with in 2012. HUD issued a final rule making technical corrections and clarifying amendments to RESPA regulations, including a clarification on instructions for the HUD-1. The American Land Title Association (ALTA) reported title insurance premiums written during the first quarter of 2011 increased 8.7 percent when compared to the first quarter of 2010.
According to ALTA’s preliminary 2011 First-Quarter Market Share Analysis, the title insurance industry generated $2.25 billion in title insurance premiums during the first three months of 2011, compared to $2.07 billion during the same period a year ago.
